Wild rabbits with horn-like growths protruding from their heads have been spotted in Colorado. Shocked locals are calling them “zombie bunnies” and “Frankenstein rabbits,” but the weird condition poses no threat to humans or other animals.
At the end of July, a fire broke out outside Littleton, Colorado spreading to hundreds of acres and forcing the evacuation of dozens of homes. Among the survivors is a cat that had the good fortune of having been doused with flame retardant.
Wolverines will likely soon find a home in Colorado – again – as policymakers in the state sort out exactly how they will reintroduce these rare mammals. Much depends on whether the US Fish and Wildlife Service determines that the species will be protected under the Endangered Species Act, a decision it is expected to make in the coming months.
