Florida Man Eats His Pet Peacocks Out of Spite

A man in Hudson, Florida killed, cooked, and ate two of his pet peacocks, apparently in a dispute with a neighbor, according to law enforcement officials in Pasco County.

The man, 61-year-old Craig Vogt, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty – a felony – after leaving a note in a neighbor’s mailbox telling her that he had killed two of his peacocks “because she continued feeding them,” according to an affidavit released by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

The neighbor, whose name was not released, told a deputy she had been “in a verbal disagreement” with Vogt over his pet peacocks. According to the affidavit, Vogt described killing the exotic birds by “cutting the peacock’s neck with a knife and then cooking it in a frying pan.” Vogt admitted he killed and ate both birds and placed the letter in her mailbox, “to prove a point that he will continue to kill his pet peacocks if she continues to feed them.”

The third-degree felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty adds to the more than 40 cases that have been filed against him in Pasco County, including public intoxication, criminal traffic charges, and aggravated assault, the New York Post reports. The Post also includes a mugshot of Vogt that’s a little too reminiscent of Charles Manson.

Pasco County Correction

Vogt might not be done eating yet. The affidavit continues, “While being transported to jail, the defendant stated that upon his release, he plans to kill all his pet peacocks to prevent anyone from taking custody of them.”
